On Monday, July 21, 2025, a man was arrested on Uhuru Highway for allegedly stealing a smartphone, a crime that has become all too familiar in this bustling area of Nairobi. Known for its high rates of mobile phone theft, Uhuru Highway has seen a surge in incidents where thieves snatch devices from unsuspecting victims and vanish without a trace, leaving many residents feeling unsafe.
The arrest was made possible by Nairobi Governor's Protocol Officer Rodliques Lunalo Mulindi. The officer has been actively involved in addressing the growing issue of mobile theft along the highway and was in the right place at the right time when the incident occurred. During the operation, he successfully recovered a Redmi smartphone that had been stolen from its owner.

"Kunalo shimo ambalo liko hapa expressway ambapo vijana hawa wakati wamekupokonya simu wanakimbia na kisha kuingia ndani," Officer Mulindi explained, revealing insights into the tactical maneuvers employed by these criminals. This highlights the danger they pose and the need for heightened vigilance among the public.

The prevalence of smartphone theft on Uhuru Highway has sparked concern among residents and law enforcement alike. Many have expressed frustration with the ongoing criminal activities that have turned this busy thoroughfare into a hotspot for thieves.
In the meantime, let’s all do our part to stay safe and vigilant while navigating Nairobi’s roads. Together, with the commitment of law enforcement and the community, we can work towards a future where incidents of theft are diminished, and public spaces become secure for everyone.
